While public universities offer more attractive majors, private institutions are trying to attract new students by offering various incentives.

New subjects

Many universities have opted to expand their majors for new students in order to meet the demands of the labour market.

Thai Nguyen University is offering five new specialities, including natural resource and environmental management, electrical and electronic engineering technology, biomedical engineering, office administration, and multimedia communications.

Both Hanoi University of Culture and Vietnam National University - Hanoi’s University of Social Sciences and Humanities offer three new majors. The former offers training in events, musical performance direction, and international tour guiding, while the later has expanded training to travel management and travel services, archiving, and information technology.

The Ho Chi City University of Science is offering the subjects of nuclear technology; the University of Culture with communications and culture; the Vietnam National University - HCM City's International University with financial engineering and risk management; and University of Finance and Marketing with real estate study, international business, and hotel management.

New incentives

Numerous private universities are offering incentives to attract new students including reduced tuition fees, help with accommodation and scholarships.

Chu Van An University has decided to halve tuition fees for first-year students who are from mountainous areas. Some students from rural and urban areas are entitled to tuition fee discounts of 15-30%.

Haiphong Private University has opted to provide accommodation for 800 new students, in addition to the free provision of internet and wifi services.

Students who have good high school results and entrance marks will benefit from discounts of 80%-100% on their tuition fees, while poor students can benefit of discounts of between 10% and 50%.

Ha Hoa Tien University will provide free accommodation for those sitting their entrance exams. Top placed candidates will receive a laptop, with the runner-up receiving a personal computer.

All successful examinees will be exempted from one-month’s tuition fees during the first term, along with an opportunity to work for China’s POMIHOA industrial corporation following graduation.

Tan Tao University will award a full scholarship for every successful first year student, including tuition fees, living costs, and insurance. From the second year, the scholarship will vary depending on student results.

Becamex Corporation’s Eastern International University in Binh Duong City also has two kinds of scholarships. Students will be provided with accommodation in the university hall of residence dormitory for just VND150,000 (USD7.1) a month.
