Four Vietnamese students have won one gold, two silver and one bronze medals at the 44th International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO), held in Washington DC from July 21–30.

Pham Gia Huy from the Tran Phu Gifted High School in the northern port city of Haiphong bagged a gold with 89.55/100 point.

The two silvers went to Nguyen Van Phuong from the Nguyen Hue Gifted High School and Nguyen Viet Hoang from the Hanoi-Amsterdam Gifted Senior High School.

The bronze was presented to Tran Thi Mai Huong from the Le Hong Phong Gifted High School in the northern province of Nam Dinh.

Team leader Do Quy Son, who is Doctor of Chemistry, said that the result was very encouraging as Vietnamese students had never won any gold in the previous contests.

Son added that Huy’s gold medal is testimony to the Vietnamese nation's learning tradition.
