Schools try to streamline admission process

Though the deadline for the admission rounds to university is November 30, many schools have tried to shorten the deadline in violation of regulations.

Hoa Sen University announced requirements

On August 23, Bui Van Ga, Deputy Minister of Education and Training, sent an official document to schools, which said, "For various reasons students may not receive the official results of their exams by August 31, and to ensure fair play, the admission deadline of the first round must be no sooner than September 7."

Despite this, many schools ended their admission dates on regular schedule, namely HCM City University of Information and Technology, HCM City University of Techonology or Hoa Sen University.

An official from HCM City's Department of Education and Training said that this action could affect students. "The ministry should take quick measures to deal with the situation so that talented students are eligible to attend the universities of their choice without worrying about delays from the postal service."

According to regulations set out by the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), schools must keep online status updates, but in reality many schools have failed to comply.

In addition many students have run into difficulties in withdrawing their dossiers after they have realised that their chances of getting in were slim.

Some of the learning institutions explained by saying that they have to deal with a large number of dossiers, and they simply do not have the time and manpower to cater to such a small amount of applicants.

Because the recruitment process is still in the hands of the schools themselves, the MET's requests about digitising their information remain just requests, and they have no real authority to enforce decisions upon schools.

One example is the Commercial University, which has not been accepting any further applicants. However many websites have said that they are. The school itself was later responsible for sending back applications, with an explanation that they were invalid in the first place.
