The Ministry of Education and Training has decided to halt doctorate courses in 57 sectors at 27 universities and training institutions due to unqualified teaching staff.

Numerous education institutions forced to halt doctorate training programmes

This is the first time that the ministry has taken such a drastic measure to tighten control over doctorate training programmes. Those courses to be effected include ethnology, parasitology, mineral sorting, Chinese literature, neuropathology, haematology, water source development, computing technology, telecom technology and biochemistry.

Institutions that are compelled to halt their doctorate training include Vietnam Military Medical University, Hanoi National University of Education, HCM City University of Education, HCM City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hanoi University of Technology, Vietnam Forestry University, Hanoi Medical University, Vietnam Institute of Education Sciences, and Institute of Mechanics.

Bui Anh Tuan, head of the ministry’s Department of Higher Education, said the move is part of an overall effort to intensify supervision over the quality of training at education institutions.

Any institutions that wish to resume their programmes must meet all requirements and submit a dossier to re-register for accreditation in those fields.
