Three students in Danang City have been fined VND30 million (USD1,428) in total for insulting several girls on facebook.

According to the inspection agency from the Danang Department of Information and Communications, these students are among seven who were fined for the offence of posting derogatory remarks on the facebook page which they named, “True face of hot teens in Danang City”.

Meanwhile, the other four received a warning for a less serious violation.

Nguyen Chuong Duc, Deputy Head of the inspection agency, said six of the the group members are from local schools while one, 16, has left school already.

This is the first time a group of students has been fined for such violations.  Previously, the page attracted 16,000 likes, but now, the figure is just more than 300.

Earlier, the municipal police got two petitions in which parents called for help after their children were insulted on the above-mentioned facebook page. One of them, a high-school girl, committed suicide by drinking tranquilizers on the day before high-school graduation took place. However, the victim was rescued before anything bad happened.

According to the facebook content, the girl was said to be pregnant and had shown signs of unfriendliness to friends.

Her mother said “After this false information was posted, my daughter received lots of messages from her friends. Later, she was really shocked and depressed, leading to the attempted suicide. It's luckly we found her in time to save her.”

However, after the incident, the guilty ones still continued to write insulting and threatening things about the girl.

Another victim, Nguyen Thi Phuong Tr., 21, was insulted by the same group as a Vespa-driving hair trader, and they also said she had taken her electric bicycle to a pawnshop for money, and left home with a boy. The article saw more than 250 likes and dozens of comments despising her.
