Vietnam wins big at 2014 International Physics Olympiad

Vietnamese students have bagged three gold and two silver medals at the 45th International Physics Olympiad taking place in Astana, Kazakhstan from July 13-21, placing overall among the top ten.

This is the highest achievement ever of Vietnamese students at the International Physics Olympiads.

The Ministry of Education and Training said on July 20 that all five Vietnamese representatives to the competition collected awards.

The three gold medal went to Cao Ngoc Thai, a 12th grader from Pham Boi Chau gifted high school in central Nghe An province; Do Thi Bich Hue, a 12th grader from the gifted high school under the Hanoi-based University of Natural Science (National University); and Vu Thanh Trung Nam, a 11th grader from Hanoi – Amsterdam gifted high school.

Two silver medals were secured by Dao Phuong Khoi, a 12th grader from the gifted high school under the Hanoi-based University of Natural Science; and Pham Nguyen Tuan Anh, a 12th grader from the gifted high school under the HCM City-based National University.

This year’s competition drew 383 candidates from 84 countries and territories. Vietnam is among a select group of six countries achieving three gold medals.
