School year begins with 22 million

More than 22 million students started their school year across Vietnam on September 5.

According to statistics provided by the Ministry of Education and Training, in the 2014-2015 school year, the country has over four million children attending preschool, 15 million in basic education, nearly 2.2 million students at the tertiary level and over 400,000 students at vocational training schools.

On the occasion of the beginning of the new school year, Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan issued a directive requesting that schools nationwide conduct their own scrutiny of educators and administrators.

The availability of education to all, illiteracy eradication, enhancement of morale and lifestyles for students should be prioritised, according to him. His other suggestion was that foreign language training be emphasised and improved.

State President Truong Tan Sang sent a letter to educators, students and parents nationwide, emphasing the necessity for improving the quality of education at all levels, and reforming education policy so that the system will be more beneficial for students and society. Part of this would be focusing on education in mountainous regions.

 

Party Chief Nguyen Phu Trong attends flag salutation ceremony

Many Party and government leaders have made sure to events commencing the beginning of the new school year. On September 4, Party Chief Nguyen Phu Trong attended an event at his former high school, Nguyen Gia Thieu High School in Hanoi’s Long Bien District.
