VJU – the seventh member of Vietnam National University, was officially established on July 21, 2014 under a Prime Minister’s Decision. The construction of its buildings is expected to complete in 2020 at a cost of US$365 million, including US$200 million from Japan’s official development assistance (ODA), US$100 million from Japanese enterprises and US$65 million from the Vietnamese government’s counterpart fund.

The university will be equipped with modern facilities and will cooperate with leading universities in Japan and the world.

Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam emphasized that the establishment of the university is very significant for human resource development in Vietnam and contributes to promoting fine strategic partnership between the two countries.

He added that highly qualified human resources plays an essential role in national development. The Vietnam-Japan University will meet Vietnam’s human resource development needs, help strengthen bilateral cooperation and become a reputable educational and training centre in the region.

He urged relevant agencies to soon complete the university’s management apparatus basing on the model of modern universities in the world and thoroughly prepare training materials to ensure the quality of education.

The university sets a target of ranking the list of 50 best universities in Asia by 2025 with the capability to teach around 6,000 students, including about 2,400 master’s students.

It also plans to offer a wide range of majors such as science, technology, healthcare, nursing, agriculture, Japanese language, law and economics, and business administration.
