Vietnam National University honours prized mathematician

Professor Ngo Bao Chau was invited to join the Advisory Board of Vietnam National University.

The offer was made during a visit to his old Vietnam National University High school on August 11.

Professor Mai Trong Nhuan, Director of Vietnam National University invited Professor Ngo to join the school’s strategic Advisory Board which includes many well-known scholars such as Professor Tom Cannon and Professor Susan Schwab.

Furthermore, Professor Mai applauded Ngo’s idea on the establishment of the Mathematics Advanced Research & Training Institute. Professor Mai said that the university always supported and would create favourable conditions for Professor Ngo.

Additionally, the school’s leaders expressed their wish that Professor Ngo would play an important role in developing partnership relations between Vietnam National University and the University of Chicago where he will become a professor of mathematics September.

Professor Ngo expressed his honour when he returned to the school and wished that he would have more chances to work with the school, giving lectures for short time courses for the students.

Vietnam National University also decided to grant Professor Ngo an honourary doctorate degree.
