Construction on the Vietnamese-German University campus yesterday began in a new urban area in Bình Dương Province.
Seventy-one outstanding students at 35 universities and colleges in HCM City on Wednesday received scholarships granted by the Hessen state’s Ministry for Science and the Arts.

The 50-hectare project with a cost of US$139.54 million will include an academic cluster of buildings, a library, dormitories, administration building, and lecture and sports halls.

The complex, to be completed in 2019, will initially serve 5,000 students and later 12,000 students.

Founded in 2008, the university is an autonomous, research-oriented university providing programmes in the fields of engineering, technology and business.

More than 1,000 students study for bachelor’s and master’s degrees in 11 majors at the school, and most of the 400 graduates have found jobs, said Hà Thúc Viên, deputy rector of the university.

Since its inception in 1993, the programme has awarded scholarships to 150-300 disadvantaged students every year.
