Vietnam bags one silver prize at International Astronomy Olympiad
The five students (holding certificates) at an awarding ceremonyThe five students, all from the Hanoi-Amsterdam high school in Hanoi, took part in the world’s largest contest in astronomy and astrophysics for high school students for the first time, together with more than 50 teams from all over the world.
Vietnam is home to a number of world-renowned astronomic scientists, including Tran Thanh Van and Trinh Xuan Thuan, but astronomy is still new in the country. The science has been taught in some universities.
The Vietnamese students’ strong performance at the event is expected to encourage the study of astronomy among students nationwide.
