Student awarded for winning full scholarship from Stanford

Nguyen Le Hoai Anh, a 12th grader from Lao Cai provincial High School for Gifted Students, was awarded by the provincial People’s Committee, on April 17, for winning a full scholarship from Stanford University (US) worth VND 6.5 billion (US$ 286,000).

At the function, Hoai Anh was presented with a congratulatory letter of the Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, a certificate of merit from the Chairman of the People’s Committee, and an award from the provincial Department of Education and Training.

Hoai Anh, whose parents work at Apatit Vietnam Company, is the first student in Lao Cai to receive a full scholarship from one the the world’s most prestigious universities. She competed with 44,000 nominees to become one of the 2,000 scholarship-winners this year.

She was one of the five Vietnamese representatives to attend the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) in the US, in 2015, and among the four Vietnamese representatives at the Southeast Asian Education Dialogue in China. She has also won several prizes in national academic English contests.

Apart from exceling in academics, Hoai Anh has been actively participating in social activities. She was the founder of a project that encouraged use of paper bags to protect the environment, and a project on providing warm cloths to poor children in mountainous areas.
