Vietnam wins international science gold medal for the first time

Vietnam won 12 medals at the 14th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad 2017 (IMSO 2017), including one gold medal for science.

The science team achieved a gold, five silvers, while the maths team grabbed two golds, three silvers, and one bronze.

This is the first time Vietnam has won the gold medal for science at IMSO.

 

The Vietnamese teams join IMSO 2017


The Vietnamese team members are from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for Gifted, Cau Giay High School and Hanoi Star Secondary School.

Apart from winning the gold medal in maths, Hoang Ngoc Bao Khue from Hanoi Star Secondary School was presented with the awards for Best Exploration in this subject.

Last year, the country took the top spot among 23 participating nations at the IMSO 2016 in terms of mathematics. Vietnamese students also carried off ten silver and three bronze medals in science.

Vietnam is preparing well to host the 2019 competition.

The International Mathematics and Science Olympiad Olympic is an annual contest for pupils aged below 13 years. The event was hosted in Singapore this year.
