Vietnam’s Aerospace Engineering School established
The School of Aerospace Engineering (SAE) under the Vietnam National University – Hanoi (VNU) made its debut on December 18, aimed at training and providing high-level human resources for aerospace technology at the university and postgraduate levels for the nation.
The SAE is training a scientific research and technology transfer unit under the management of the VNU’s University of Engineering and Technology and the military-run telecom Viettel.
This is a special cooperation model between a training-research institute and a service-technology corporation, which is expected to facilitate the study, teaching, practice and research activities while determining the output standards in research and training in accordance with the practical needs of the country.
SAE is tasked to conduct training and provide highly qualified human resources for aerospace technology at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels; to study and develop technologies and scientific products in the field of aerospace in order to meet the civil and security requirements of the country; and provide consulting services and technology transfer in the field of aerospace technology at home and abroad.
Aside from the training duty, SAE will deploy research on image processing technology for UAV and satellite reconnaissance; UAV transmission technology; MEMS technology used in micromotor manufacturing; optical technology applied to optical rotors; navigation and control technology; and missiles and satellites.
Its aerospace technology engineering training programme is designed to meet the standards of the world's leading universities, focusing on the basic skills and technologies of the Industry 4.0, with the participation of lecturers from the University of Engineering and Technology together with national and international experts, including those from Viettel.
Its experiments and practices will be carried out in the aerospace research laboratories of VNU, Viettel Group and Vietnam National Space Centre.
Each admission course is targeting approximately 20 students. The first admission is expected to begin in February 2018. Target students are fresh from the University of Engineering and Technology, or those following IT, electrotechnics, electronics, telecommunications, engineering and mechatronics. For students in the first course, they are exempted from the full tuition fee and also receive full scholarships of the first year granted by Viettel.
After 4.5 years of study, students will receive a degree in Aerospace Engineering and have the opportunity to work and participate in projects on aerospace at Viettel, Vietnam National Space Centre and other units.
