PM calls on students to stay away from materialistic lifestyle

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc called upon Vietnamese students to have political firmness; pursue revolutionary ideology; and stay away from materialistic lifestyle.

The Government chief made the statement in Ha Noi on December 10 at the plenary session of the 10th National Congress of the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA).

The event drew the attendance of 690 delegates representing for over 2.4 million overseas and domestic Vietnamese students.

Addressing the event, PM Phuc stressed that this is the congress of the Vietnamese youth who demonstrate their vitality, energy, and aspiration under the spirit “bravery, studying, creation, volunterring, and integration."

The PM stressed that the Party and State have spared no effort to take care of and nuture generations of youth and studentsas they will become the future owners of the country.

Over the past years, Vietnamese students have unceasingly spared no effort to attain high achievements in study and scientific research, and strengthen their revolutionary morality.

The VSA has been creative in organizing activities and meeting legistimate rights of 2.4 million students.

However, besides the achievements, PM Phuc directly pointed out weaknesses facing students, as a proportion of them lack the will to study, lead a materialistic lifestyle, get involved in social vices and illegal activities and many have yet prepared themselves for integration.

The Government chief proposed the VSA organize emulation movements; and implement the “5-Good Students” campaign.

The VSA was asked to listen to, support and assist students to protect their legitimate rights and consider the assocasion as the common house of Vietnamese students.

The VSA should encourage students to research and renovate science and technology; and accelerate business startup.

The PM also said that in the coming time the Government would pay more attention to and create a more favorable environment for the VSA to realize their ideals and start-up projects; and contribute to job generation for graduates./.
