Danang schools closed due to flooding

All pupils and students in the central city of Danang have been told to stay at home today, December 10, due to serious flooding caused by torrential rains over the recent days.

According to the municipal Department of Education and Training, Danang City has been seriously submerged, so, local pupils and students need to be off from schools.

Under the department’s instruction, all schools have to focus on cleaning and sterilising work to avoid possible disease infection. When the weather continues to be unfavourable, schools can base on the real condition to permit their students to take more days off.

Particularly, pupils from Phan Dang Luu Primary School and Nguyen Hien High School in Hai Chau District where are put up to 1.5 metres under water stay at home on December 10-12.

Rivers in Danang have been forecasted to face a high flood. Erosions and flash floods have been warned at some areas in Hoa Vang and Lien Chieu districts.

Dr. Hoang Phuc Lam from the National Centre for Hydro-meteorology Forecasting, heavy rains of the central region, including Danang City, were impacted by the North-east monsoon and East wind.

Provinces from Quang Binh to Binh Dinh have been predicted to see heavy rains on December 9-10. From December 12, the cold spell is forecasted to affect the coastal central and south central regions, bringing torrential rains.
