Pupils win four gold medals at Int’l Junior Science Olympiad

Vietnamese contestants bagged four gold medals at the 15th International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) held in Botswana from December 2-10. 

The Vietnamese team comprised six students who are all the 10th graders from the Hanoi Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

The four gold medals belong to Nguyen Manh Quan, Vu Quynh Chi, Nguyen Tran Mai Phuong and Nguyen Le Thao Anh. Meanwhile, Tran Dinh Quan won two silvers and another silver was earned by La Trieu Duong.

The Vietnamese team won a bronze medal in the olympiad.

IJSO is a competition in science for students who are 15 years and younger. It aims to promote interest in science among school students, exposing them to problem-solving, critical thinking and experimentation.

IJSO is held in the first week of December of every year, in different countries. Currently, around 50 member countries participate every year.

This year’s event attracted 276 students from 44 countries and territories.

This was the 9th year the Hanoi Department of Education and Training authorised by the Ministry of Education and Training to select students for the contest.
