Education New Zealand announces scholarships for Vietnamese students
Education New Zealand (ENZ) has recently announced the New Zealand Schools Scholarships (NZSS) - the first New Zealand Government scholarships offered exclusively to Vietnamese secondary school students.
Thirty-six secondary schools across New Zealand will provide support for talented Vietnamese students who wish to discover the country’s future-focused and quality education, with scholarships offering 100 per cent, 50 per cent, and 30 per cent off tuition fees for the first year of study.
Alongside this announcement, ENZ also signed a Collaboration Arrangement with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training to further build the education partnership between New Zealand and the city.
More and more Vietnamese families are choosing New Zealand as an education destination for their children. The number of Vietnamese secondary school students studying in the country had risen to 2,500 by the end of 2018.
“Much of this growth can be attributed to New Zealand’s strong education system, which equips students with the independent thinking, problem solving, and collaboration skills required to have a successful career,” said Mr. John Laxon, ENZ’s Regional Director with responsibility for Vietnam.
“New Zealand has the best education system in the world for preparing students for the future of work, as ranked by the Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2017 Educating for the Future Index. Vietnamese families can be confident that their children will become better students and better leaders by experiencing a world-class New Zealand education.”
NZSS offers outstanding opportunities for ambitious and capable Vietnamese students to experience New Zealand’s excellent education and enjoy all the beautiful things the country has to offer. All 36 schools joining the program are highly-regarded institutions, providing Vietnamese students with a wide range of great choices in different regions of New Zealand.
Among the 36 scholarships, there are eleven “He Tohu Awhero” (Ambition) scholarships that support 30 per cent of tuition fees in the first year of study, and 25 “He Tohu Hiranga” (Excellence) scholarships that support 50 per cent. One outstanding student recipient of the “He Tohu Hiranga” scholarship will be offered 100 per cent of tuition fees for the first year of study. Applications open on March 1.
“Through initiatives such as NZSS, New Zealand can play its part in providing talented young Vietnamese with the broad skills - interdisciplinary, entrepreneurial, leadership, digital and technical, creative and analytical - as well as the strong global awareness needed to meet the challenges of the future,” said H.E. Wendy Matthews, New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam.
The Collaboration Arrangement signed between ENZ and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training is designed to further strengthen the collaboration between the country and the city in various educational aspects. There will be more joint programs to develop skills and knowledge among students, teachers, and education management officers in the southern city, as well as exchanges programs between New Zealand and the city’s institutions.
