Addressing the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thi Nghia acknowledged the important role of the initiative and also of WVI’s efforts in the context of violence happening both at school and at home in some places, affecting the physical and spiritual health of children. The ministry is urging local authorities, organizations, families, schools, and the community to seek solutions, and the agreement is expected to help end violence against children and ensure children’s welfare.

The initiative will include programs and activities on changing the behavior of teachers and students to build and maintain a safe, healthy, and non-violent educational environment.

The ministry and WVI will coordinate to introduce teaching methods and behavior acknowledgement to curb violence in schools.

For teachers, it will help them have an active way of teaching that avoids meting out harsh punishment. Students, meanwhile, can identify the risk of violence and improve their ability to handle situations and protect themselves.

Ms. Tran Thu Huyen, National Director of WVI in Vietnam, said its programs concentrate on nurturing love within families, schools, and communities. Kids who receive love and care will have positive views of the world and display appropriate behavior.

When children are able to live, learn, and play in a safe and healthy family and school environment, they will develop comprehensively and become useful citizens, Ms. Nghia added.

Programs and activities will take place in 14 cities and provinces nationwide: Hoa Binh, Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, Dien Bien, Hung Yen, Hai Phong, and Thanh Hoa in the north, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, Da Nang, and Quang Ngai in the central region, Binh Thuan in the south-central region, Dak Nong in the central highlands, and Ho Chi Minh City.
