For the first time ever, two Vietnamese higher education institutions, Vietnam National University (VNU) - Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City branches, have been named in the 2020 Best Global Universities Rankings released recently by the US News & World Report.

Both the Vietnam National University - Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City branches have been named in the 2020 Best Global Universities Rankings by the US News & World Report for the first time ever.

Accordingly, the VNU - Hanoi is ranked 1,059th in the list, followed by the VNU - Ho Chi Minh City at No. 1,176.

For their 2020 list, the US authority in education rankings evaluated nearly 1,600 schools, of which 1,500 were ranked, across 81 countries and territories.

In Asia, the VNU - Hanoi stands at No. 275 and the VNU - Ho Chi Minh City at No. 322.

Based on Web of Science data and InCites metrics provided by the Web of Science Group, the Best Global Universities methodology weighs factors that measure a university's global and regional research reputation and academic research performance.

For the overall rankings, the list takes 13 different variables that measure academic research into consideration, including academic reputation, international collaboration, publications and citations.

The top 10 schools in the overall ranking are all found in either the US or the UK, in which Harvard University remains at No. 1, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University and the University of California - Berkeley at No. 2, 3 and 4, respectively.

In September this year, both the VNU - Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City were also named in the Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings.
