Students in Hanoi have been allowed to stay at home until the end of February due to continued fears over the coronavirus.

The decision was made by the Hanoi People's Committee Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung on February 21 following the proposal by Chu Xuan Dung, director of the municipal department of education and training.

Schools have been asked to continue instructing students online.

The departments of education and training and health need to closely co-operate to guide students to ensure their safety when they return to school on March 2.

To date, Hanoi has seen no coronavirus patients. The city is quarantining 77 suspected people at local hospitals, including seven from China's Wuhan City and 15 from Binh Xuyen District, Vinh Phuc City.

Hanoi has also zoned an area of the suspected people's houses for sterilisation and kept a close watch on the health condition of 509 others who have met with these people.

Schools in Hanoi have been shut for three weeks since the coronavirus outbreak.

HCM City has proposed the school closure until the end of March for coronavirus prevention.
