Vietnam wins gold medal at European Physics Olympiad

Vietnam has won a gold, a silver and two bronze medals at the European Physics Olympiad 2020 which was held online due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Associate Prof. Dr Nguyen Cao Khang, head of the Vietnamese team, said that four among the five members of the team achieved the medal at the competition.

The gold medal went to Nguyen Manh Quan from Grade 11 of the Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted. Quan finished fifth among 300 competitors.

Quan also claimed a gold medal at the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics and the International Junior Science Olympiad both in 2019.

The silver medal was claimed by Nguyen Thanh Long from Grade 11 of the High School for Gifted Students of Hanoi University of Science.

Do Duc Manh from Bac Ninh Specialised High School and Nguyen Khac Hai Long from High School for Gifted Students, Hanoi National University of Education obtained the bronze medal.

The online European Physics Olympiad 2020 took place on July 20-26 with the participation of 57 countries. This is the fourth time the contest has been held and the second time Vietnam has joined.
