More support for education sector in flood-hit localities

The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) has sent more assistance to central provinces which have been hit hard by the recent record floods and storms.

On Tuesday, a working delegation from the MoET paid a visit to the central region to encourage and support the education sector in Quang Nam, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien-Hue provinces.  

Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong presented text books, desks and toys worth nearly VND10 billion (USD433,000) to the four localities.

On Wednesday, the National Education Union of Vietnam also sent a relief package worth VND1 billion (USD43,478) to flood-ravaged localities in the central region. The package includes textbooks, pens, tables and chairs, computers, school bags and toys.

Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha has asked the National Education Union of Vietnam to continue calling on more donations to help the central region following floods.

On October 24, Nha came to visit to encourage the education sectors of the two central provinces of Ha Tinh and Quang Binh.

Vu Minh Duc, chairman of the National Education Union of Vietnam, said that over the past two weeks, the agency has received financial support worth more than VND2 billion (USD86,956) from donors to assist flood-hit areas.
