The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) has called on schools to colleges and universities to consider reducing and exempting tuition fees for students from flood-hit areas.

According to the ministry, recent storms and floods have resulted in severe losses for the central region of Vietnam, including student and teacher deaths.

Many schools in the central region severely flooded following recent storms.

Officials from the MoET and the National Education Union of Vietnam visited and supported the education sector of flood-ravaged localities.

Recently, on the behalf of the MoET, Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong presented textbooks, desks and toys worth nearly VND10 billion (USD433,000) to Quang Nam, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien-Hue provinces.

However, the ministry’s assistance remains modest compared to the losses experienced by the localities.

The ministry has called upon universities and colleges to consider the tuition fee reduction and exemptions for students from flood-lashed localities.

Many universities in HCM City and Hanoi have announced tuition fee reductions for students, including the Banking University, Economics University and Nong Lam University in HCM City in HCM City and Hanoi Medical University and Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Any donation to flood-hit areas through the MoET can call 0906200099 or send through a banking account at 115000001767, Vietinbank.
