According to the instructions signed on December 31 by vice-chairman of the committee, Duong Anh Duc, students of 7th, 8th, 10th and 11th grade would return to classrooms starting January 4, 2022. In Thanh An Commune of Can Gio District, all students from the 1st to 12th grades would return to school from that day.

The decision was made as students in these grades have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Many schools have said they were ready to reopen classes starting January 4, as they have prepared safety responses and more students have returned to classes than surveys expected.

Speaking to local media, principal of Nguyen Du Secondary School in Go Vap District, Truong Thi Dep said that the school had developed a plan to welcome back 7th and 8th grade students.

Children who cannot go to school could study at home by connecting to the school’s computer system to listen to lectures delivered from the classroom.

The committee has also asked the health and education and training departments to prepare for the opening of primary schools and kindergartens in 2022.

Previously, some 150,000 students of 9th and 12th grades in the city returned to school in a pilot programme starting December 13. Two weeks after schools reopened, 60 Covid-19 cases were detected among schools in 15 districts, including over 40 students.
