Local authorities in Hanoi have recently issued strict guidelines on the management of the city’s solid waste. Incorrect methods of transfer and disposal of waste will result in fines of VND 10 - 15 million (520 - 780 USD).

Both organisations and individuals need to be aware and also need to play an active role in taking measures to help protect the environment by reducing solid waste pollution in the city. It is important and necessary to ensure that waste collected are categorised and not simply dumped on the street nor anywhere other than regulated disposal sites.

Waste must be transported to disposal areas using specialised equipment. Waste trucks, after collecting waste, need to be covered properly to avoid any leakage or accidental disposal of waste on the street. Vehicles, before leaving construction sites, are required to be washed thoroughly to reduce dust emission.

The fine for improper disposal of waste on the street ranges from VND 5 to 10 million (260 – 520 USD), and for dumping waste in unregulated disposal areas it is VND10 to 15 million.
