Vietnamese environmental police recently made a bust involving 822 kilos of rare animals in Huong Son District, Ha Tinh Province.

According to the Ministry of Public Security’s Environmental Crime Prevention Department, the seized animals included varanus salvators, a kind of varan, and cyclemys oldhamii, a kind of turtle. The origins of these animals were unknown at the time.

The department cooperated with local police in Ha Tinh to investigate the case and identify where the animals came from.

After some days of investigation, it was discovered that they had belonged to Tran Van Kien, of Cay Tat Hamlet, Son Tay Commune, in the same district.

During the investigation, several young local men tried to raid the stock of confiscated animals, but failed in the face of a quick police response.
