A technology solution developed by Ba Ria-Vung Tau Urban Sewerage and Development Ltd Company (BUSADCO) to develop prefabricated barriers to protect river banks and sea dykes has been honored.

The BUSADCO solution was recently recognized as one of the top ten science and technology developments of 2015, as selected by the Science and Technology Journalists' Club.

Newly developed solutions are chosen based upon six categories – mechanisms and policy, social sciences and humanities, fundamental research, applied research, international co-operation and honouring scientists.

The BUSADCO tech solution was developed by company general director Hoang Duc Thao, who also owns more than 40 scientific products that are highly appreciated by domestic and international scientists.

The BUSADCO tech solutions include cubes, pillars and combined structures that minimise erosion, sliding and pushing.

Products are prefabricated in a factory. Compared to traditional solutions, the construction process takes only one-third of the usual time, while the cost is reduced by at least 20%. Prefabrication also helps overcome numerous challenges caused by weather, climate and hydrology, while remaining convenient for operations and maintenance.

The products are used in coastal areas and HCM City.

Tran Dang Nghia, vice director of HCM City's Anti-flooding Programme, said that the products helped reinforce weak ground, noting that the city's soil was generally weak and unstable due to daily high tides.

Other evens listed in Viet Nam's top 10 science and technology events in 2015, as announced by the Science and Technology Journalists' Club, are the successful transplanting of kidneys taken from ‘non-heart-beating' patients in June. Vietnam ranks third among ASEAN countries in the Global Innovation Index 2015 and Tech start-up festival launched in Ha Noi in May.
