Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corp. (FHS) has denied their responsibility in the recent dumping of around 100 tonnes of toxic waste from its factory to a farm in Ha Tinh Province.

In a letter sent yesterday, July 15, to many agencies including the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Ha Tinh Province People's Committee, and the media, Formosa cited an article in its contract with the Ky Anh urban environment management and construction consultation joint stock company (Party B), saying that the Party B is responsible for transporting Formosa's muddy waste to a dump site approved by the Ha Tinh's Department of Natural Resources and Environment. And Party B is sole responsible for the dumping process after taking waste out of Formosa Company.

Formosa also said that they had got a dumping approval from Ha Tinh's Department of Natural Resources and Environment with tests showed their waste was not toxic.

"Ky Anh urban environment management and construction consultation joint stock company therefore should take full responsibility for their dumping of the waste in a wrong place," Formosa said in their letter.

Earlier, Ha Tinh’s environmental police uncovered around 100 tonnes of waste dumped at a private farm run by Le Quang Hoa, director of Ky Anh urban environment management and construction consultation joint stock company. Samples tested at the Institute of Technology and Environment showed that the waste was toxic.

The Ministry of Public Security has also worked with Ha Tinh Province on the inspection.
