The National Centre for Hydro–Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF) announced on June 18 that a rainy spell would affect the northern region, including Hanoi, starting Sunday night.

The average rainfall will range between 70 to 150mm, and could reach up to 200mm in some areas, said the NCHMF. Tornado, hail and wind gusts are likely, according to the weather forecasting centre.

It also warned of flooding on the Thao, Lô, Băng Giang and Kỳ Cùng rivers as water could rise by two or three metres. Lai Châu, Sơn La, Hà Giang, Cao Bằng and Bắc Kạn provinces could be inundated, the NCHMF warned.
