By late October 6, floods in the Vietnamese central province of Quang Binh had caused 28 deaths, 17 injuries and an unknown amount of missing persons.

Despite lower water levels compared to the flood’s peak, measured on October 4, six out of seven local districts now remain underwater, resulting in an estimated total loss of hundreds of billions of VND. The deluge also swept away over 1,000 houses and tens of thousands of domestic fowls.

Currently, the hardest-hit district of Quang Trach has still been isolated, with nine communes sunk, preventing relief activities.

Up to 3,000 residents in Tan Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district, have to live on the top of their houses, health stations, schools or even mountains to ensure their safety. Many of them have become exhausted and caught illnesses due to lack of food, water and other necessities.

Dat Viet newspaper reported that, by late evening on the same day, floods brought about seven deaths, injured one and destroyed 1,900 houses. Meanwhile, Nghe An province witnessed five fatalities, three injuries and 10 ship accidents.

Downpours have also flooded many roads, killed three and injured three in Quang Tri province, with Hai Lang district among the most seriously-affected localities. By the end of October 6, up to 2,000 houses in the district were flooded.
