Rain-triggered floods, landslides kill six in Ha Giang

Floods and landslides triggered by torrential rains since June 19 have killed six persons in the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang.

A 49-year-old man and his 21-year-old son died when their boat overturned in Lo River, while lighting during rains claimed the lives of two in Bac Quang and Yen Minh districts. Two others die in landslides in Meo Vac district.

Many key traffic routes are being buried under soil and stones, including roads to Xi Cai and Son Vi communes in Meo Vac district, National Road 34 from Ha Giang city to Bac Me district, and a road from Coc Pai town to Na Tri commune in Xin Man district. Local transport authorities have mobilized all resources to clear up the road.

Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee Ha Thi Minh Hang said various working teams have been sent to affected localities to assist local authorities in coping with the situation and assessing the damages for timely support, as rain is still continuing in the province.
