Local residents ave been rushing to pick the wood

Nguyen Duy Vinh, head of Lang Chanh District’s forest management board said that wood swept away by the recent floods might have been from the expansion of the nearby border road. Workers might have cut the trees, but had not yet transported them away.

According to Vinh, local people have to wait a month while investigations were ongoing to define the ownership of the wood. If ownership is not defined, they can use the wood. If they want to sell the wood, they have to seek permission from the forest management board.

Local authorities are unclear of the wood origins

Le Quoc Viet, deputy head of Thanh Hoa Province’s forest management department, said that the department had urged Lang Chanh and Quan Son districts to discover the origin of the wood.
