U Minh Ha forest faces fire risk
Thousands of hectares of U Minh Ha cajuput forest in the southernmost province of Ca Mau are facing the high risk of fire due to long drought.
According to the provincial forest management board, the hot weather which has happened since mid-March this year has resulted in the serious drought for the forest.
At present, around 43,000 hectares of the forest have become dry with 18,800 hectares at the very dangerous and dangerous levels.
Most of the vulnerable forest area is located in Nguyen Phich, Khanh An and Khanh Lam communes of U Minh District, while the rest is located at Khanh Binh Tay Bac Commune in Tran Van Thoi District.
Local authorities have arranged security guards to be on duty round the clock to monitor at-risk areas in the forest.
The Ca Mau Provincial Forest Management Board has also advised local residents to ensure safety when using fire to prevent the possible risk. People are advised not to come to the forest to search for honey. Meanwhile, signboards have been set up to warn dangers in many areas.
