Floods claim more lives in southern central provinces

Flood began stricking southern central region

The Vietnamese Central Steering Committee for Flood Prevention and Control said that floods triggered by heavy rains during the past two days have killed at least three people and left two others missing in central coastal provinces from Phu Yen to Ninh Thuan.

All three deaths are in Khanh Hoa Province, said the committee. Meanwhile, Phu Yen and Ninh Thuan each reported one missing.

About 453 houses in Khanh Hoa Province were ruined and 113 others in Ninh Thuan were flooded or damaged, said the committee. Nearly 6,000 hectares of rice and crops were submerged or damaged.

Some coastal provinces such as Binh Dinh, Quang Ngai and Khanh Hoa have also reported boats and ships facing accidents due to bad weather.

According to the committee, over 1,000 households in Ninh Thuan and 270 others in Khanh Hoa have been evacuated to safe places.

Meanwhile, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that torrential rains would continue in Vietnam\'s central coastal provinces including Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan in the coming days.

The committee urged the provinces to store food and necessities and operate search and rescue teams to actively prevent and mitigate damage
