The ministry has also recommended Hanoi to timely announce the information about the fish deaths as well as measures to deal with this to mitigate public concerns.

According to the ministry, Hanoi needs long-term measures to prevent similar incidents.

“Hanoi should consult domestic and international experts along with specialist agencies,” the ministry suggested.

On July 9, a large number of dead fish were seen on the West Lake area which is along Lac Long Quan Street.

Director of the city’s Department of Construction Le Van Duc said that the phenomenon would be due to the recent heat.

Around 500 workers were organised to collect the dead fish. Many volunteers also joined the work.

Earlier in October 2016, hundreds of tonnes of fish were also found dead on West Lake. Test results from the Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment showed that the fish died from lack of oxygen.
