In the context of the EU Climate Diplomacy Week between 24 and 30 September, the Delegation of the European Union in Vietnam, in collaboration with the Embassies of European Union Member States, will host a series of activities aimed to raise public awareness on the urgent need, addressing climate change.

Climate Diplomacy Week is a time, where EU Delegations around the world reach out to communities and partner organisations, highlighting positive global action and collaboration on climate change. 2018 sees two Climate Diplomacy Weeks: the first one from 18-24 June and the second one from 24-30 September 2018.

Vietnam is among countries hardest hit by climate change

The series of activities consits of a Workshop for 15 cities in Vietnam on climate action planning and targets, a Seminar on circular economy for private sector and a High-level discussion on climate change. All these activities aim to engage central and local authorities, academics, civil society organisations to share experieneces and explore avenues for further collaborative actions.

The EU is stepping up its international cooperation and support to partners outside the EU on fighting climate change. This is demonstrated through policy dialogues, capacitiy – building projecrs and climate finance.

In Vietnam, the EU is supporting energy transition and, supporting the promotion of Renewable Energy, through policy dialogue as well as through concrete action such as training, advocacy and , as well as investment in the Renewable Energy sector in cooperation with national EU member states development banks. Beyond energy, the European Investment Bank also contributes to the financing of Mass Rapid Transit systems that will save important levels of GHG in the transport sector. The EU also provides financial support for climate adaptation, in the Red River delta, in the Mekong delta area, and in provinces of central Vietnam together with EU development banks.

The EU is also investing in Climate-related education. In Vietnam, under an ERASMUS+ funded project, universities from Italy, Poland and Cyprus have been working together with 3 universities in Vietnam to build courses on Renewable Energy systems for students from Vietnam. As part of the project, the 8 best students were selected to study in Europe and witness examples of solar, wind and other renewable energy projects. They came back with some great stories to share, and some new ideas about how to bring more renewable energy solutions to Vietnam.

Speaking about the European Climate Diplomacy Week, Ambassador – Head of EU Delegation H.E. Mr. Bruno Angelet said: ''Fighting Climate Change is a priority in our partnership with Vietnam. We promote in particular Vietnam's energy transition, including through substantial financial support, as the energy sector is key for economic growth, but also the biggest emmitter Green House Gases.''

Through the Paris Agreement, the world committed to preserve the very source of life: our planet and its environment. The climate change deal is an unprecedented multilateral partnership between nearly 200 countries including Vietnam, supported by communities and companies across the world, to address a global problem that we can only tackle together. Since the beginning, Europe has been at the forefront of this collective engagement.
