Environment company caught polluting Hanoi lake
Hanoi Urban Environment Company in Xuan Son Commune (Urenco 6) has been caught discharging untreated waste water into the environment in Ba Vi District, Hanoi.
About 700 cubic metres of water then discharged into the lake each day. The team already gathered information about Urenco 6 from local people before starting the inspection.
The team also discovered an area where rubbish had been buried long ago but had waste water leaking out. The waste water had a brownish colour and foul smell when it was directly discharged into the environment.
The inspection team took some samples for tests and asked Urenco 6 to immediately stop the discharge.
On October 24, Vietnam Environment Administration sent an official document and asked Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment and related agencies in Ba Vi District to tighten monitoring at Urenco 6 and make sure that they follow regulations.
The investigation is still going-on and the team will announce punishments for Urenco 6.
