 >>  Dumping site for Hanoi cleared after negotiation
Hanoi sanitary workers have worked through the night to clear the large amounts of rubbish piled up for four days following a blockade by local people at a local dumping site in Soc Son District.

Hanoi Urban Environment Company (URENCO) quickly sent employees to collect rubbish after rubbish trucks are able to enter Soc Son Waste Treatment Complex. According to Trieu Tuan Duc, head of URENCO branch in Nam Son Commune, said they would need five days to clean a total of 17,000 tonnes of rubbish.

Pham Thi Bach, a sanitary worker, said, "We were all happy when it was announced that everything had returned to normal. Even though we have to work harder now, we'll do our best to make the streets clean again."

The route to the dumping site was blocked by the residents living nearby on January 11 to protest the sluggish compensation payments for site clearance in this area. The locals agreed to leave the site on January 14 after negotiating with the authorities.
