100 bags of pangolin scales were hidden deep inside the container among the cashew bags. The seized pangolin scales can worth tens of billions of VND.

In early May, the Customs Department at Saigon Port discovered and seized seven tonnes of pangolin scales sent from Africa. The scales were also disguised as cashew and hidden among wood logs.

Pangolins are the most trafficked mammals in the world. The international trade of all 8 species found in Africa and Asia is banned under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species.
