The mud is expected to be dredged from Quy Nhon Port from now to the year-end. Dredging at Quy Nhon Port is carried out on a yearly basis to ensure that large ships can dock safely.

According to local authorities, discharging the mud into the sea would cause environmental problems. They requested Vinamarine to find another feasible way.

After consideration, the province and Vinamarine agreed on using the mud to fill the foundation of an eco-tourism project at Thi Nai Lagoon invested by Thi Nai Eco Bay JS Company.

Earlier, Vinamarine also recommended dumping 400,000 cubic metres of mud off Quy Nhon.
