Erosion threatens people in HCM City

The four sites which have been found with erosion most recently are situated by Saigon River and the canals of Thanh Da, Go Me and Moc Keo.

The erosion is attributed to illegal encroachment on the river and canal bank by local people’s construction works. This can be seen in the area of Phu Xuan and Muong Chuoi rivers in Nha Be District and My Khanh urban area in Can Gio District.

Illegal sand exploitation in areas along the Dong Nai, Long Tau and Soai Rap rivers have also been included among the causes.

Local authorities have urged localities to install erosion warnings and plan to relocate affected people to safe places.
