Storm Matmo is forecasted to hit Quang Ngai and Ninh Thuan provinces on October 30 afternoon.


  

Storm Matmo to hit Vietnam on October 30

According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, at 4 am, Storm Matmo was 350km away from Binh Dinh and Ninh Thuan provinces with a wind speed of 60-75 km per hour. In the next 12 hours, the storm will move in the west-north-west direction at 15-20 km per hour. The wind speed will increase to 75-90 km per hour.

In the following 12-24 hours, it will move mainly to the west and land in Vietnam, affecting provinces from Quang Ngai to Khanh Hoa before weakening into a tropical depression. In the following 24-36 hours, it will continue to weaken and reach Cambodia.

Heavy rains have been forecasted for central regions on October 30.

On October 29, Hoang Thi Ly, deputy head of Khanh Hoa Department of Education and Training, already issued an official document asking schools to let pupils and university students stay home on October 30 and 31. Storm Matmo and cold wind may cause heavy rains, landslide and severe flooding.
