The conference is scheduled to be held in the central coastal city of Da Nang at the end of March, 2020.

Director General of the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands Ta Dinh Thi said that at the conference, more than 400 Vietnamese and international delegates will discuss the close relationship between the sustainable marine sea economic development and climate change adaptation.

They will also discuss issues related to the contribution of a number of key sectors to help maintain the marine economic growth, building a smart coastal city that can adapt to climate change, ocean pollution and plastic waste, food security and the resilience of vulnerable communities, he added.

According to Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Quy Kien, the organisation of the conference will contribute to demonstrating Vietnam’s active role in addressing global issues and enhancing Vietnam’s position especially in the context of Vietnam assuming the role of ASEAN Chair in 2020 and being a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure.
