Nguyen Xuan Anh, head of the Earth Physics Institute said the 3.6 magnitude and 8.1km depth aftershock occurred at 5.31 am on August 1 in Moc Chau District, Son La Province.

Also in this location, on July 27, a 5.3 magnitude, 14 km depth earthquake occurred. People in high-rise buildings in Hanoi could also felt the quake.

In the following days, the authorities have recorded several aftershocks of different magnitudes in Moc Chau District. The Earth Physics Institute is still monitoring the earthquake and its aftershocks.
