The drought in the Mekong Delta region

The drought will result in low water level at rivers and canals in the region, posing high risk of erosion.

Since early June, the rainfall in the Mekong Delta region has been lower than the average of many previous years. Meanwhile, the underground water level has tended to decrease.

However, in the last months of this year and early next year, the rainfall in the region would be higher than the average level of many previous years, so the intrusion and drought would be less serious than last year.

The issues would severely affect farming, particularly in the provinces of Long An, Tien Giang, Vinh Long and Tra Vinh.
