Bui Xuan Khanh’s family in Nam Thanh Ward, Dien Bien City transferred an eight-kilo male rhesus macaque to the national park. The monkey was picked up by soldiers in Dien Bien City and then given to Khanh’s family to be cared for.
Tran Luong Hoan’s family in Thanh Hung Commune, Dien Bien City, handed over a 10-kilo pig-tailed macaque which was bought from a person earlier.
Meanwhile, the two others, one 3-kilo crab-eating macaque and an 8-kilo stump-tailed macaque were given by the family of Lo Thi Luyen and Le Ngoc Bong in Dien Bien and Lao Cai provinces respectively.
These four monkeys are listed among endangered rare species regulated in the government’s Decree 06/2019/ND-CP. Among those, the crab-eating macaque is facing malnutrition.
The animals are being medically monitored before being released into the wild.
