The mass fish deaths in Binh Son District

Ngo Cong Binh from Binh Dong Commune was disappointed to see dead fish drift to the seashore. His family’s four fish cages have been swept away, causing him losses of nearly VND1 billion (USD43,478).

According to Binh, fish that were mature enough to be sold were left dead.

Lots of other households in Binh Son have seen losses of VND200-300 million, Binh added.

Huynh Minh Vuong collected ten plastic barrels and his two damaged fish cages in a sad mood as he had lost hundreds of millions of VND. He will use the barrels to make new cages for raising fish.

The dead fish has left losses of tens of billions of VND for local fishermen. The locals had to bury the fish to avoid environmental pollution.

Nguyen Van Cam, vice chairman of Binh Dong Commune said that local authorities have arranged forces to help local people gather the dead fish. On Tuesday alone, they collected five tonnes of dead fish.

The three communes of Binh Duong, Binh Chanh and Binh Dong have been hardest hit by Storm Conson with losses estimated at VND15 billion.
