Illegal waste discharging has become increasingly rampant in areas around the Han River in Danang City.

It is common to see illegal dumping along streets such as Nhu Nguyet, Le Van Duyen and the banks of the Han River.

Rubbish is discharged at wharves into the river, causing environmental pollution. While the wharves themselves have also deteriorated.

A project near Thuan Phuoc Bridge in Nai Hien Dong Ward has become a landfill. Cao Dinh Hai, chairman of Nai Hien Dong Ward, said that the project investor has continuously ignored requests by the local authorities to fence off their land to prevent illicit dumping.

The ward’s environmental patrol force has fined many people for dumping but has failed to detect those which were done at night.

Nhu Nguyet Street in Hai Chau District is among the nicest roads by the Han River and often attracts many tourists. However, it too has been harmed by unlawful dumping. Nguyen Huu Hong, chairman of Thuan Phuoc Ward, said that the ward will arrange security to deal with the situation.

Meanwhile, it is easy to see cracks on some pavement sections by the Han River. Deep subsidence has caused risks for people, particularly those who usually exercise along the river.

According to a local person, the subsidence has been occurring there for a long time, but nothing has been done to improve it.

Many fishing boats have also been left on the banks of the Han River by local fishermen.
