Starting off as a voluntary flood donator, 20-year-old Nguyen Van Manh - a student of Hue Pedagogics College - has founded a live blood bank with the participation of 200 members in the central Hue City.

But Manh modestly calls it a “club”.

Refusing to recall how many cases he and his club have helped, Manh said, “for me, I just want to help as much as possible on the principle that a drop of blood can save a life.”

He said he wants to do something useful to life.

The most impressive case, Manh recalled, was when he was arrested by a local security team for climbing up the locked gate of his boarding room at midnight to rush to a nearby hospital to donate blood.

“They thought I was a burglar,” he added.

“I received a call from the hospital that a woman from Quang Ngai needs my A-group blood.

“It was at midnight and my landlord locked the gate,” he said.

After explanations, securities men urged me to go quickly, he remembered.

Luckily, the operation was successful and the woman was saved.
